If you value the many freedoms we've enjoyed in this great Republic for over 230 years, it's important to understand that our government doesn't have the authority to grant the rights we're born with as American citizens. Those rights are specifically described in the U.S. Constitution's 1st through 10th Amendments (aka The Bill of Rights). The only way to protect those rights is to be proactive in defending them lawfully within the Constitution's framework. Our founders understood that a government powerful enough to grant rights could also take them away very easily.
